Artist Biography

Connie Charnell, D.F.A. received her Diploma of Fine art at North Island College in Courtenay B.C. 

She began her art career with a Fine art Scholarship from West Van High school. The next two years were spent traveling throughout Mexico, studying art which was leave her with a strong influence showing in her rich earth-tones and vibrant colours.

Connie’s artistic interests diversified from experimenting with fiber arts, taking spinning and weaving workshops to photographing the West Coast of Canada from a fish vessel. Her move into painting began with two years of water colour courses at North Island out-reach program on Cortez Island. This phase was followed by much experimentation with mixed media, collage and  with furthering her studies N.I.C. in Courtenay.

During her years in Courtenay Connie participated in many art shows and won several awards of excellences and honorable mentions. She graduated from N.I.C. in 1998. Connie recently returned from a two year stint of living, working and collecting many photo images in England and now resides in Victoria.

Connie’s intuitive, abstract approach extends from acrylic washes on un-primed canvas to mixed media on panel, collage and now digital collage. 

Her life is focused on self-knowledge and personal growth and it is her intension that this “inner work” will be reflected and run parallel with her artistic vision.
